I don't think its something you use with a webring.
You would use a form to jump to a specific site in the ring (not likely
unless you memorized all ringmembers :-), or to a search script so you can
jump to a site containing a certain keyword. So unless you're about to build
a search.pl thingy for ringlink i would worry about it.
If you would put the code on the screen normally instead of in a textarea
field you could translate all < and > in < and > codes in the
subroutine that displays the ringcode. This way it never interferes with the
page layout.
