I'm still exploring some of these. However, much of it needs to be handled
by Gunnar. As I mentioned, many of these variables are hard coded into the
template and CGI files. You can edit them but then updates will be difficult.
Ringlink is a work in progress. Although many of us would like to see more
global customization of colors there are more important needs. My list is
as follows (from the current list):
1) Auto-assigning of site ID numbers
2) Statistics
3) Reordering tool
At that point I feel that Ringlink's tools would be as good as Webring's a
year ago.
A "ring checker" is listed but I am beta testing a product that does a
pretty decent job. Although this type thing can be run from your server
and on an automated schedule it works well for me to run one from my home
PC. I've asked the author to look at importing Ringlink data which would
make the product very easy to use.
After having run Web-Ring checker several times I've realized it is a
complicated task. Many pages are burried in frames, have redirects, are
generated by CGI and Javascript. Then there are timeouts and network
errors. All this before you get to the actual task. I'd rather see Gunnar
improving the rest of the system rather than starting a new project.
Sorry I haven't helped much on the original question. How about doing a
Finder search looking for the color names (and number codes) in *.pl and
*.pm files?
