One of the usual characteristics of "official" is that there is a single authority who makes the designation and grants the sanction. It may be person, or an organization. But Ringlink, like many other projects today, is Open Source. Gunnar could, as the initial creator, grant this sanction. But, having chosen not to, there is another possibility: the general recognition of the community. It is much more "clumsy" than having a single identified authority. It is less certain in its designation. It is more prone to challenge. But it is not less "valid". James S. Huggins
