First, I would like to congratulate Gunnar on having taken the ring checker problem by the horns and coming up with a working solution. The new version seems to work very well. With a few more improvements it will be a very efficient tool. I have been using a desktop based checker. On average it took 90 minutes to two hours to check 100 sites. The new Ringlink checker takes a small fraction of that time and works very well. Second, Timeouts are a serious problem with certain sites and specificaly some hosts with pop-up advertising. I've found that 20-25 seconds works for most sites and that 30 seconds is a reasonable number. The only sites that I have had consistant trouble timing out over 30 seconds are few and I know those sites and ignore the error. Third. jsNAVBARS: Gunnar has provided me with a copy of ring.pm that is customized for the jsNAVBAR system that I and a few others run. If you need this code please contact me and I will modify the code for your use and send you a copy. This code checks for a string in the jsNAVBAR command and seems to be a reliable method. I have used this testing method on other checkers with success and it works well with the ringlink checker. Jock Dempsey webmaster@anvilfire.com
