There is one difference between Pam's and my checking: I pick up pages
that were prepared in advance, while parts of the sites are generated
when using the original URLs. The new checker seems to be able to handle
some kind of dialogue with the servers, and one possibility is that the
dialogue in connection with a more complicated generated page disturbs
the process... But I don't find this explanation very logical, since the
checker still grabs the correct info.
I agree with Jock that some of the free services are a nuisance on the
web. But like Pam I don't believe that timeout is the explanation
either. Please note that the checker doesn't load images in a browser or
execute JavaScripts etc.; it just reads the code in plain text format.
So timeout in this respect is more about connecting to a server than
loading a lot of "cool stuff".
So, what is it then? One thing I have come to think about is that the
problems might be related to Fawnna's server, e.g. an unreliable Perl
version or insufficient "power" to execute the demanding checker script
accurately.
But I don't know.
