No, you are not wrong. To be able to use a text based hitcounter, I
renamed a couple of pages from .html to .shtml, but at the same time I
created frames files with the .html extension which simply load the
.shtml pages... This is an example:

The reason why I chose this solution is that the .html URL is widely
spread to ringmembers as well as search engines and web directories.
