One year with Ringlink

Last year I got tired of WebRing.org's unwillingness to communicate with
the users of their service, so I decided to create an alternative tool
for webring management. At July 31, 2000, Ringlink 1.0 was released.
It's been a rather eventful year to the ring community since then. As
regards Ringlink, the developers have patiently worked with improvements
and enhancements, and we are soon ready to release Ringlink 2.0. The new
version is internationalized, i.e. the whole program can be easily
extended with other languages than English, and it will be possible to
run it under Apache mod_perl to increase performance and reduce the
server load.
One new feature in Ringlink 2.0 is the possibility to use the checker on
inactive sites. To be honest, that feature was rather low on my personal
priority list, but one Ringlink user, Pete Jordan (now a developer),
thought otherwise and simply wrote the necessary code and provided it as
a patch. That's what "open source" is about. :)
