RE: Ringlink Web Ring Directory??

responses intermingled
Should the default Description (max 150 characters) be increased to 250?
>>>I recommend yes. 150 is TEENY TINY. For webrings I'm hosting on MY
installation of Ringlink I'm considering upping the limit to 400 characters.
I wouldn't recommend that for the directory necessarily, but I'd increase it
beyond 150.
Should the choice of category in which the ring is to be placed in be
selected at the Ringlink System 'Add new ring' page by the Ringmaster, or be
decided at the 'Ringlink Web Ring Directory' by the 'Directory Manager'
(Debby T)?
>>>I recommend BOTH. That is, the category selected by the Ringmaster should
be a "suggestion". The Directory should have final decision. This
accomplishes two things. It solves the category spamming problem that the
Yahoo! WebRing directory has and it also accomodates the transition period.
During the transition period (until the Ringlink system handles this
semi-automatically), much of the info will be manual and the directory will
be "assigning" categories anyway.
Should the listing include whether a web ring is open or closed, and.......?
>>> Yes.
1) If a Ringmaster was to edit his or her web ring info, would that updated
info when saved also be updated in the directory with a notification of the
update going to the Directory manager? Or would they simply be reminded on
that ring's edit page in that Ringlink System to also now update their info
at the Ringlink Directory?
>>>I would autosend. If you wish for some reason to be able to "inhibit" the
send, I might give the Ringmaster the option of "asking" the Directory to
not make the update and the ability to specify the reason why.
2) If a web ring was found not to be valid or was broken in the directory,
would both the
Ringlink Directory Manager and the Ringlink System's Manager whose system
was
hosting that web ring be notified?
>>>Yes.
3) If the Ringlink System's manager deletes a web ring, would it be
automatically removed from the directory, or would the Directory Manager
just
get a notification of the change and be required to then delete it from the
directory?
>>>Either. I suspect in the short term it will be option "B" by default.
4) Ringlink has a site checker for the RingMasters, but not a ring checker
for
the System's Manager, maybe this sould be something that could be added to
the Master Admin page?
Or having the Directory Manager doing the checking negates the need for
this?
>>>A Ring Checker for the directory would be great. I don't see it as a
Ringlink thingy as much as a Ringlink Directory thingy. I would not expect
the System Manager to run it, but rather the directory itself.

I note that music appears as a subcategory in both Entertainment and in Arts

of the subcategories just be a reference to the other?
