Re: Ringlink Directory - - Catagories

Ok. I misunderstood the system and did not realize that the two levels
listed would have third levels below. I thought that the two levels listed
would be the only levels and all rings would be in one of those.
BTW . . . one thing I DISLIKE about the Y!WR categories is that rings can
belong to a higher level category.
Consider a category of
Arts and Humanities / Literature / Fiction
On the Y!WR system you can categorize your webring as
Arts and Humanities
or
Arts and Humanities / Literature
or
Arts and Humanities / Literature / Fiction
This really bothers me. I'd rather have all webrings at the third level,
even if it is
Arts and Humanities / Misc / Misc

>>>"Artists" but not "Art"? "Photography" but not "Photographers"? Should
the index be the art or the artist?
Ok I agree.. let's try this...
Art - as a subcategory with lower level categories to added.
Arts and Humanities/Art/
Arts and Humanities/Art/Artists
Arts and Humanities/Art/Organizations
           Very nice.
           I'm understanding better now.

>>>What is the difference between "Companies" and "Other"?
Other was for a topics that did not fit into the listed subcategories such
as
MLM Programs or anything thing else that I might have missed as being a
popular sub category.
We may want to standardize on either "other" or "misc"

>>>I'd separate books and magazines. I would separate comics and animation.
I note that music appears as a subcategory in both Entertainment and in Arts
and Humanities. Not necessarily wrong, but it may be confusing. Should one
of the subcategories just be a reference to the other?<<<<<
As far as books and magazines go there did not seem to be enough rings to
warrant separate categories in either the Y! directory or the RS directory I
haven't check Bravenets Directory in a long time. But I think that we can
use the number of rings listed in their categories to give us a guide to
work with. As I said I would want the categories in the directory to be
coherent and useful but only as large as we need. But then again I could be
wrong, it may be better to have to many categories in the beginning then to
have to re-categorize and move rings later.
I hadn't consider the "quantity" as a factor.
                Good thought.

Society and Culture/Issues/
Society and Culture/Issues/Privacy
Could we combine Law and Cyberlaw and use it as top level category?
                         Yes. Agreed on both.
Again, didn't realize there would be third level
groups.
