Re: Notification of Changes?
With Ringlink there is also the Ringlink Systems Manager, and it is he
or she who should determine the ethical conduct of the RingMasters using his
or her Ringlink Web Ring System.
That is why several Ringlink System Managers have requested the ability
to email all RingMasters using their Ringlink Web Ring System, in the same
way that RingMasters can email all WebMasters who have joined their Ringlink
Web Ring (Currently on the Ringlink tasks to do list).
Unlike WebRing or RingSurf a RingMaster can with Ringlink join any 1 of a
hundred or so different Ringlink Web Ring Systems or create one of their own.
So, a Ringlink RingMaster can shop around and find that perfect Ringlink
System whose Terms of Service (Ethics) is closest to those that they would
like to have for their own Web Ring (Example TOS
http://www.ringlink.org/demo/ring/customizations.html).
Of course TOSs are only valid if they are seen to be enforced, and are
not just window dressing, as was the case with Y!WebRing, and is the case
with RingSurf (Has the most 'Adult' rings of any web ring system).
I think it is a great idea that Ringlink RingMasters be notified of any
changes a ring member makes to their web site's listing in that web ring. I
also think that that should also be true for the Ringlink Systems Manager,
who should be notified of any changes a RingMaster makes to his or her web
ring's listing in that Ringlink web ring system!
Certainly with Ringlink there is allot of confusion between Ringlink Web
Rings, and Ringlink Web Ring Systems! :-(
This can best be seen with the Ringlink Systems Directory and the
Ringlink Web Ring Directory......
In the new Ringlink Web Ring Directory, RingMasters are asked to list
the 'Host System', but most can not understand why this info is needed? Is it
needed?
Myself if I were to join a Web Ring, I would want to first check out the
Host System, to find out what kinds of other Rings they were hosting, their
TOS, and......
As I see it a Ringlink Web Ring is only as reliable as the Ringlink Web
Ring System that Hosts it.
