Thanks, all, for your feedback! I have updated the mailing list info page at http://www.gunnar.cc/webring/quotes/mailarc/help , taking your input into consideration. Further comments on how to introduce this mailing list are much welcome. I will shortly update the Quotation Ring Homepage and do some promoting, so that our visitors be aware of the existence of the list. This is a summary of the comments and suggestions posted so far, along with a few comments by me: From Mary --------- > I am very glad to have a place to send queries about the sources > & wordings of quotes. > ... > About mixing ring management matters with queries about quotes: > how many ring management matters are there, esp. now since you > have the thing well-established? My comment: You have a point, there are very few of them. > ... > Letting people post quotes on this site would be interesting, > but I agree that this is the purpose of our quote sites, & I > could see that becoming a huge (though irrelevant to the purpose) > section of the postings. My comment: Not sure if you are pro or con. Anyway, so far I haven't changed my mind. From Susie ---------- > Agreed! (i.e. to my statement that we should _not_ encourage people to post messages with quotes just to share them with other people) > > Also, when we discuss quotation sources, wording, etc., we > might indicate the source, according to whom, and leave it at > that. I have participated in other discussions around the web > in recent years, and there always seems to be a potential for > arguments about rightness, correctness, universal truth, etc., > etc. ;-) My comment: I'm not convinced. Is the kind of discussions you refer to that bad? > ... > One tiny suggestion I would make is that readers share good > sources for quotations they have found; i.e., books, other > quotation e-mail lists, etc. My comment: Agree, as long as it doesn't lead to too much advertisements. From Katrina ------------ > How would it be if everyone made up a kind of personal email > signature? I'm thinking it could have their email address, > website URL, & maybe their favorite quote. My comment: The sender's email address is always in the email header. It's always refreshing with quotes signatures, but it wouldn't be a very good idea to make that a requirement to post to the list, would it? (Maybe you didn't mean that - everybody is of course free to try to convince people.) :-) From Sarah ---------- > I think this list should be open to all quote gurus, not just > webring members!! My comment: Agree. Gunnar Hjalmarsson Ringmaster Quotation Ring Mailing List --------------------------- No attachments, spam or unrelated advertisements, please!
