Re: What consitutes a quote anyways?

Thanks, Angela, for a lovely piece of ... poetry, in my opinion. I'm
afraid that I'm not able to complete or attribute it.

That's a good question. As the ringmaster I often think about it when
deciding whether or not to accept new sites in the ring. As some of you
might know, the Quotation Ring requirements don't include any definition
of a quote.
A few times, when questioning that sites qualify to be Q.R. sites, I
have referred to the discussion about definitions in section 1 in the
alt.quotations FAQ at http://www.faqs.org/faqs/quotations/part1/ . (This
is an old FAQ; as Sam Hobbs let us know a few weeks ago, he is
maintaining a current FAQ for the Usenet group alt.quotations. The URL
to that FAQ is
http://www.mindspring.com/~samhobbs/alt-quotations/faq.html .)
Nevertheless, not all Quotation Ring sites comply with the definitions
in the alt.quotations FAQ, so somehow I seem to have implicitly applied
a broader definition of a quote when managing the ring.
