Well, I'm not sure about the source of this quote, but it's definitely 
interesting.  Zen is exactly what we're studying in my theology class right 
now, so this is quite relevant to me.  I agree that some of what causes 
human suffering is our expectations of things (such as anticipation of a 
coming trip which turns out to be a miserable experience) in addition to our 
desire to cling to things that are constantly changing (friends moving away, 
relatives passing on, etc.)  However, I don't think that one can achieve 
total happiness and freedom from suffering just by ridding themselves of 
expectations alone, there are a lot of other factors that play a role in it 
and that need to be considered.  I'd love to hear what some other people's 
opinions on this are.  :o)
