Re: Oldest Quotation Books?

The request was for "old" quotation books. Most of these are not old, but
maybe this will help:
The current alt.quotations FAQ
<http://www.mindspring.com/~samhobbs/alt-quotations/faq.html>
will eventually have reviews of dictionaries of quotations (DOQs) and other
collections. Other quotation resources are also available at the main index
for the faq:
<http://www.mindspring.com/~samhobbs/alt-quotations/index.html>
For reviews of quotation books, the predecessor to the current FAQ (from
1995) has reviews of a number of such collections. There is a link to it
from the current FAQ page, but you can get straight there also:
<http://www.mindspring.com/~samhobbs/alt-quotations/faq-1995.html>
There are a number of other places with such reviews, but Michael Moncur's
site at:
<http://www.starlingtech.com/quotes/>
has some reviews:
<http://www.starlingtech.com/quotes/books.html>
Also, the New York Public Library has a guide to DOQs and collections at:
<http://www.nypl.org/research/chss/grd/resguides/quote.html>
The 1901 Bartlett's (9th edition) is available online at:
<http://www.bartleby.com/99/>
Good luck!
Sam
